Coley wins second straw poll; this time at Cateechee Candidate Countdown


Winder, GA April 23, 2010 - Shane Coley, Republican candidate for Senate District 47 and Winder, GA resident won a large straw poll taken at the Cateechee Candidate Countdown in Hart County, GA on April 17, 2010.

The event attracted statewide candidates and local political figures alike. Over 100 people voted in the multi-race straw poll and participated in the event hosted by the Hart County GOP in cooperation with eight other surrounding county GOP groups including Banks, Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Jackson, Oconee, Oglethorpe and Stephens Counties.

In the crowded 47th State Senate race, Coley took 40% of the vote followed by Kelley Gary at 21% and Pat Graham at 16%. Graham has since announced that she is withdrawing from the Senate race for personal reasons leaving Coley, Gary and Bower in the race.

The 47th State Senate district covers all of or parts of six counties in north Georgia: Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Jackson, Madison, and Oglethorpe County. The last day to register to vote in the July 20, 2010 primary is June 21.
